A total turnover of 7.821 billion shares worth N134.471 billion in 150,799 deals was traded this week by investors at the Nigerian Exchange Ltd.
This is compared with 2.876 billion shares valued at N63.832 billion that exchanged hands last week in 80,229 deals.
As a result, the value of transactions on NGX this week increased by 110.6 per cent.
Meanwhile, the market opened for four trading days this week as the Federal Government declared Thursday, January 1, 2026, as Public Holiday to commemorate the New Year celebration.
The Financial Services Industry led the activity chart with 5.992 billion shares valued at N67.024 billion traded in 55,598 deals.
This contributed 76.61 per cent and 49.84 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
The ICT Industry followed with 946.959 million shares worth N8.028 billion in 15,443 deals.
The third place was the Consumer Goods Industry, with a turnover of 258.820 million shares worth N9.381 billion in 24,133 deals.
Trading in the top three equities, namely Cornerstone Insurance Plc, Cham Holding Company Plc and Access Holdings Plc, accounted for 5.317 billion shares worth N37.361 billion in 10,441 deals.
This contributed 67.97 per cent and 27.78 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
The NGX All-Share Index and Market Capitalisation appreciated by 1.92 per cent and 2.09 per cent to close
the week at 156,492.36 and N99.938 trillion respectively.
Seventy-three equities appreciated in price during the week, higher than 44 equities in the previous week.
Twenty-three equities depreciated in price, lower than 30 equities in the previous week, while 51 equities remained unchanged, lower than 73 recorded in the previous week.
Austinlaz, Aluminium Extrusion Industries, Eunisell Interlinked, Associated Bus Company and Honeywell Flour Mill were the top five gainers for the week, as they gained N1.47, N7.45, N38.05, N1.24, N5.25 respectively.
The top five losers for the week were: Etranzact International, First Holdco, Livingtrust Mortgage Bank, CAP Plc and Champion Breweries.
The companies lost N1.25, N4.20, 28k, N5 and N1 respectively.
