We never funded terrorism, NASCO Group says

NASCO Headquarters in Jos, Plateau State

United Nations Security Council as well as the US Government cleared the late founder of the Jos-based business group NASCO, Dr. Ahmed Nasreddin, during his lifetime of all allegations of sponsorship of terrorism which were falsely made against thousands of people soon after the 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, the business group’s management has said in a statement.

It said UN Security Council Resolutions SC/9172 of November 15, 2007 and SC/2008/25 of January 17, 2008 “totally exonerated NASCO’s late founder and his business interest of all false allegations.”

Dismissing online reports alleging that Nasreddin was a terrorism financier, NASCO said “we have never and will never be sponsors to any criminal act, organization or violence of any kind that will disrupt the peace and tranquility of the Nigerian state or any country in the world.”

It said a similar investigation carried out by Nigeria’s National Intelligence Agency [NIA] completely exonerated Nasreddin and NASCO Group in its report to the Presidency dated April 11, 2008. It said at no time were NASCO’s assets seized or its accounts frozen as a result of these investigations, contrary to the online media allegations.

An online story titled “Cornflakes for Jihad: The Boko Haram Origin Story” published by West Africa Weekly, which is operated by David Hundeyin, alleged last week that Nasreddin funded an “Islamic jihadist agenda” over many decades that led to the rise of Boko Haram. NASCO’s management described the said story as “defamatory, false and irresponsible.”
