Volleyball Championship: Zamalek beat Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) 3-2 to secure final ticket
Defending champions Zamalek of Egypt defeated Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) 3-2 in the first semi final at the ongoing 2025 African Women’s Volleyball Club Championship to secure a final ticket.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the match played on Friday at the indoor hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, showcased the teams’ wonderful skills.
Egypt won the first set 25-23, but Kenya fought back to win the second set 28-26. Zamalek took the lead by winning the third set 25-19, only for Kenya to fight back again to win the fourth set 26-24.
The defending champions displayed their supremacy by winning the final set 15-12.
It was a game of experience for both teams, showcasing power and skill that clearly demonstrated the development of the game on the continent.
Speaking after the match, the captain of Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) Volleyball Club, Gladys Yekaru, said the game was very tough.
“We fought well, but unfortunately, we didn’t win. We told ourselves to fight until the last whistle, and luck wasn’t on our side.
“The Nigerian fans supported us, and I appreciate them from the bottom of our hearts,” she said.
Zamalek will be playing in their third consecutive final, having won the last two editions in 2023 and 2024.
In other matches, Club Ominisports Descartes (OMD) of Côte d’Ivoire defeated Spiking Stars Volleyball (SSV) of Botswana 3-1 to record their first win in the 13th to 16th classification match.
Kenya Commercial Bank (Kenya) also defeated Armee Patriotique Rwandaise of Forces (APR) of Rwanda 3-2 in the five to eight classification matches.
The championship which began on April 1, will end on April 14 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
