Some residents of Jangebe in Talata-Mafara local government area of Zamfara on Friday destroyed several vehicles entering the village after the abduction of students of Government Girls Science Secondary School located in the village.
The residents, who stormed the streets in their hundreds along with women and children, used sticks and stones to attack vehicles.
Over 300 boarding students of the school were abducted by bandits in the earlier hours of Friday, and whisked them into the bush.
Eyewitnesses say the angry mob also attacked journalists who came to the community to get firsthand information about the abduction.
They said Commissioner of Police in the state, Abutu Yaro along with the state Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs, Abubakar Dauran, took time to pacify the protesters.
The officials were yet to make a statement as they make frantic efforts to mobilise into the affected town.
