Members of Vigilante Corps in Gulu Community in Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State in the early hours of Monday, foiled a planned attack on the community by bandits.
21st Century Chronicle reports that gunmen have been terrorising communities around Gulu, Fapo and Ebbo, killing and abducting residents for ransom.
Locals said bandits on motorcycles were riding towards the community when they were intercepted by the members of the vigilante corps, who killed four.
“There were gunshots everywhere and we made to run into the bush when words got to us that the vigilantes foiled an attack on our community.
“Some of us went to the scene and we helped in evacuating the remains of the bandits and the four that we captured by the vigilantes,” a source said.
He said the community erupted in celebration over the foiled attack and praised the vigilante corps for their gallantry,
