Morgan State University in the United States and the Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) have honoured a former First Lady Hajiya (Dr.) Maryam Sani Abacha on her 79th birthday.
The celebration, held on March 8, 2026, showcased her dedication to service, education, and women’s empowerment across Africa.
Notable scholars, community leaders, and students worldwide attended the event.
They highlighted her impact on health, education, and social justice initiatives in sub-Saharan Africa.
The panelists are Dr. Vivian Adeyemi, Dr. Hauwa Wambai Aminu, Ms. Oluwatobi Oni-Olusola, Dr. Habib Awais, Prof. Ahmed Maigari Ibrahim, Prof. Abubakar Sadiq Haruna, Dr. Zahra Adam, and Prof. Ganiyat Adesina-Uthman.
Under the theme “Women, Intellectual Transformation and Development,” the discussion centered on her efforts to improve access to education and healthcare for women and marginalized communities.
Moderated by Prof. Hakeem Tijani, Morgan State University, the discussants focused on her legacy as a champion for women’s rights.
Panelists shared stories of her advocacy, mentorship, and dedication to service, emphasizing that her example continues to inspire young women to assume leadership roles.
