For the second time in less than a week, the Federal Government has discounted the recent United States and United Kingdom terror alerts in Abuja, saying citizens are not in danger.
Speaking to State House Correspondents in Abuja on Monday shortly after an emergency National Security Council meeting chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari, National Security Adviser (NSA), said there was no such thing as being raised by the US and UK.
The Inspector General of Police Usman Alkali Baba had on Friday, last week, dispelled any terror threat and imminent attack on the nation’s capital and any part of the country.
Monguno, in company of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Geoffrey Onyema; the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, told journalists that the panic, which trailed the terror alert by the two countries was needless as the hype and the sense of insecurity it created were unfounded.
He said Nigerians and other residents should go about their businesses without any sense of apprehension, adding that the armed forces, security and intelligence agencies are not relenting in their duty to ensure that all Nigerians and every part of the country are safe for all.
Other attendees of the emergency National Security Council meeting include Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha; and the Chief of Staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari.
Others were the Minister of Defense, Major General Bashir Magashi (Rtd); Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola; the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami; and Minister of Police Affairs, Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi.
