The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has sealed off a property belonging to a former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The property is located along Miller Road in Kano metropolis.
The anti-graft agency sealed off the property on Thursday.
Kwankwaso was Kano governor between 1999 to 2003, and 2011 to 2015.
He represented Kano Central Senatorial District at the Senate between 2015 and 2019.
The former governor had since parted ways with his predecessor and two- term deputy, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
It was not clear if the EFCC’s latest action is related to an ongoing investigation by the agency bordering on allegation of diversion of over N3 billion local government funds against the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement.
Barrister Mustapha Danjuma, on behalf of Engineer Abubakar Maisha’ani and Alhaji Najumai Garba Kobo, in a petition sent to the EFCC, alleged that Kwankwaso received contributions of N70 million from each of the 44 local government councils (totaling N3.08billion) towards his presidential primary in 2015.
Kwankwaso contested the APC presidential primaries in 2015, but lost to President Muhammadu Buhari.
However, the EFCC spokesperson Wilson Uwujaren, had confirmed that the agency was investigating allegations contained in the petition.
The former governor’s associates, however, said the sealing of the property was connected to a family squabble over the land.
They said the sealing was a follow up on a petition sent to the commission by some members of the family of former National Security Adviser, Sama’ila Gwarzo.
Some family members claimed that former MD of REMASAB in Kano, Mu’azu Gwarzo (Baba Gandu), sold the property belonging to the family to Kwankwaso and refused to remit the money to the family. That was his family dragged him to EFCC.
