Local divers have been deployed to rescue survivors and recover bodies of victims of a boat mishap that occurred on River Malale in Borgu local government area of Niger State.
Many people were feared dead when a boat conveying over 100 travellers from Malale in Borgu local government area of Niger State to Wara in Ngaski local government area of Kebbi State capsized on Monday.
The Director-General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NISEMA), Ibrahim Inga, who confirmed the incident, said rescue operation is currently going on at the point of the accident.
The incident is coming about three weeks after 30 people died in a boat accident on River Zumba in Shiroro local government area of Niger State.
As of the time of filling the report, no victim body has been rescued from the boat accident, even as there is no official information about the cause of the mishap.
Incessant boat mishaps on Malale River have claimed hundreds of lives in the past.
