A teacher and eight students out of those abducted by bandits at the Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri, Kebbi State on Thursday have been rescued, Special Adviser on Security to the Kebbi State governor, Rabi’u Kamba, has said.
The bandits stormed the school Thursday afternoon and abducted an unidentified number of students in the school, killing a policeman in the process.
Deputy Force Commander of the Joint Task Force in North West operations, Air Commodore Abubakar Abdulkadir, had earlier said in Zamfara that a student was killed during a gun duel with the kidnappers, while four students and a teacher were rescued.
Kamba said in Birnin Kebbi, the Kebbi State capital, that the rescued students were in the custody of the military, adding that arrangements are being made to hand them over to the state government for onward reunion with their families.
