The United Kingdom is proposing a cut of its aid facility to Nigeria by 58 percent, an international media outfit, Open Democracy, has said.
The report from the organization disclosed on Friday that the cuts were “discussed by senior officials at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO)” in February.
The report says other countries to expect cuts in the UK aid facilities between 2021 and 2022 are: Libya 63 percent; Somalia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo 60 percent; Sudan 60 percent, Lebanon 88 percent, and Western Balkans 50 percent.
“British spending in the Sahel region of Africa could also drop by more than 90 perecent from £340m to £23m,” the report says.
The proposed cut aid to the Sahel region of Africa came nine months after the UK pledged £20 million to the African Union to help in the fight against COVID-19.
