Professor Muhammad Mahuta and Abubakay Usman have been appointed as acting Vice Chancellor and acting Registrar respectively of the Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto.
The spokesperson of the university, Ismaila Mohammed Yauri, said in a statement that the Governing Council of the university approved the appointments of the duo at its 167th meeting on Friday, July 12.
The appointment of Mahuta takes effect from July 30, 2024; while that of Usman begins on July 16, 2024, the statement said.
Before his appointment, Mahuta, 60, a professor of Sociology of Education, was the deputy vice-chancellor (Academics). He holds a Bachelor of Arts education in Islamic Studies and a Masters and Doctorate in Sociology of Education–all from UDUS.
Mahuta has taught for more than 35 years and became a professor in 2010.
He was awarded the National Universities Commission, Nigerian Universities Doctoral Thesis in recognition of his outstanding research work documented in his Doctor of Philosophy degree thesis; and he received the Usmanu Danfodio University Postgraduate Award for the Most Outstanding Research Work at the Ph.D. level. Both awards were given in 2012.
The acting Registrar, Usman, is a seasoned university administrator and a former registrar of the university. He joined the services of the university in 1976.
