The Kaduna State Government says the administration of Governor Uba Sani has entrenched openness, press freedom, and constructive engagement with the media, marking a clear departure from the recent past.
The State Commissioner for Information, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, stated this at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council Chairman’s Night, where he was conferred with an award for “Outstanding Media Achievements” in recognition of his leadership in information management in the state.
Represented by the Director of Media Relations and Citizen Engagement, Malam Yunusa Mohammed Abdullahi, at the event, the Commissioner reaffirmed the Governor’s commitment to transparent and inclusive governance.
“Under Governor Uba Sani, government–media relations have improved significantly. This administration has prioritised access, engagement, and respect for press freedom, enabling journalists to operate professionally and contribute to public discourse,” Maiyaki said.
He said the improved information flow has supported peacebuilding and public enlightenment across the state, noting that accurate communication remains critical to social cohesion.
The Commissioner also urged journalists to uphold professionalism and resist misinformation, stressing that responsible reporting is essential to sustaining peace and democracy.
“We must ensure that facts, not falsehoods, shape public opinion. The media remains a vital partner in promoting unity and public understanding,” he added.
Other honourees included the Governor’s spokesperson, Ibraheem Musa, journalists from national and local media organisations, and veteran practitioners.
Earlier, NUJ State Chairman Malam Abdulgafar Alabelewe commended Governor Uba Sani for fostering an open and enabling environment for journalists in Kaduna State.
The event was well attended by members of the NUJ Executive Council and members, veteran journalists, and media executives.
