Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has reinstated Mr. Jonathan Paragua Zamuna as the substantive Chief of Piriga Chiefdom in Lere Local Government Area.
This is in line with the judgment delivered by the National Industrial Court in Kaduna.
Speaking at the Council Chambers of Sir Kashim Ibrahim House on Wednesday, where he handed over the appointment letter to Chief Zamuna, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the rule of law, due process, and justice.
It will be recalled that on June 14, 2024, the National Industrial Court in Kaduna nullified the removal of Chief Jonathan Zamuna, declaring the deposition “null and void.” The court also ordered his reinstatement, stating:
“…restoring the claimant to his appointment and office as the Chief of Piriga Chiefdom in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State with all his salaries, allowances, entitlements, and benefits of the office thereof.”
Congratulating Chief Zamuna on his reinstatement, Governor Sani urged him to lead with fairness and ensure that all residents of his chiefdom are treated equally, regardless of ethnic or religious differences.
“Our administration gives equal opportunities to all citizens,” the Governor said, encouraging the Chief to emulate this inclusive approach. He further noted that diversity is by divine design and should be a source of unity rather than division.
“I am sure you have had time to reflect on the past. Lessons from the past help in strengthening us and making us better leaders. You now have a unique opportunity to serve your people with dedication, courage, and compassion,” he added.
The Governor described the reinstatement as a significant moment for his administration and the people of Kaduna State, stating that it offers a chance for reflection on past actions and their impact on the state.
He posed key questions to emphasize the importance of peacebuilding and leadership:
“Have our actions fostered peace and understanding or deepened divisions in our state? Going forward, what must we as individuals, leaders, or groups do to sustain the prevailing peace in Kaduna State?”
Reiterating his administration’s adherence to justice, Governor Sani stated:
“Our administration stands for the rule of law, due process, and justice. That is why we did not waste time in complying with the judgment of the Kaduna State Industrial Court on the reinstatement of the Chief of Piriga Chiefdom.”
He also highlighted his administration’s efforts to ensure sustainable growth and development across the state, including investments in education, health, agriculture, and socioeconomic infrastructure across all 23 local government areas.
In his response, Chief Zamuna expressed gratitude to the Governor for reinstating him to his throne. He noted that the 12 ethnic groups within his chiefdom coexist peacefully and commended Governor Sani’s leadership, describing it as a blessing to Kaduna State.
