A man identified as Magaji Sani, aged 25 of Sabon Garin Takanebu, Miga Local Government Area has drowned in surface water in Gujungu town area of Jigawa state.
Spokesperson of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Adamu Shehu, in a statement, disclosed that Sani drowned during a downpour.
Shehu said efforts by the victim’s co-swimmers to rescue him proved abortive until local divers were called in the rescue operation.
He said Sani’s body was recovered from the water but certified dead. Thereafter, his body was released to his family members and buried in accordance with Islamic rites.”
Also two sisters, Jamila Rabi’u, 14 and Rabi Rabi’u, 12 of Idan Zakara village, Dabuwaran Ward, Kaugama LGA were equally drowned on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at about 1730hrs.
The young girls were on their way home from the farm but decided to clean-up their bodies from a local pond and got drowned, the NSCDC spokesperson said.
According to him, both girls were confirmed dead at the Kaugama General Hospital and their corpses handed over to their parents for burial.
