Two persons have been burnt to death while another one sustained injuries in an early morning fire outbreak at a mining site in Nahuta community of Batsari in Katsina State on Sunday.
21st Century Chronicle gathers from local sources in the mining site that the fire broke out around 08:00am from one of the huts.
Repentant bandits, residents and Nigerians from all over the country, including prostitutes, eke out a living in the mining site.
“No one knows the cause of the fire yet, only the it started from one of the huts in the site,” a resident of Nahuta Kabiru Ayuba told 21 Century Chronicles over the phone. “We’ve brought out the dead bodies while the injured person has been rushed to the hospital in Batsari.”
Another person who works as a grinder in the mining site believes the fire started from a thrown up cigarette butt in one of the corn stalks huts.
“Almost everyone here both male and female smokes cigarettes, so it’s possible someone threw away a cigarette butt on the stalks and they caught fire,” he said.
