Gunmen have attacked Christ Apostolic Church and other communities killing two people and injuring one in Eruku, a boundary town in the Ekiti Local Government Area.
The Kwara State Police Command spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi stated this on Tuesday, adding that the victims are a worshipper simply identified as Mr. Aderemi at the church and Mr. Tunde Asaba Ajayi whose body was found in the bush.
“The Police said the attack in Eruku occurred at about 18:00 on Tuesday.
“A vigilante, Segun Alaja, sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to the ECWA Hospital, Eruku, for treatment.
It was learnt that the first attack targeted a parish of the Christ Apostolic Church during a special service, where the gunmen shot at worshippers before kidnapping the pastor and an unspecified number of congregants.
According to an eyewitness, three worshippers were killed on the spot during the attack on the church.
The eyewitness said “the gunmen came into the church while people were gathered. They started shooting and three people died immediately. They later rounded up some worshippers, including the pastor, and marched them into the bush.”
The attackers later launched another assault along the Ilorin–Kabba Road, forcing travellers to abandon their vehicles and flee into nearby bushes.
