Suspected gunmen have killed two people and abducted 25 others in an attack on Achida town in Wurno LGA of Sokoto State.
Residents said the gunmen stormed the community around 11 p.m. on Thursday, operating for about an hour. Victims reportedly include women, a 10-year-old boy, and local vigilantes.
A source said the attackers first targeted a vigilante post before moving into the town to abduct residents.
“We only realised what was happening when gunshots rang out around midnight. That was when two people were killed,” the resident said.
Residents have called on the government to establish a military outpost in the area, citing growing insecurity.
Police spokesperson DSP Ahmad Rufa’i could not be reached for comment as of press time.
