Two persons have died and about 1,000 houses have been washed away by flood in Birnin Kebbi, Jega, Shanga, Koko/Besse, Ngaski and Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Acting Executive Director, Kebbi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Alhaji Abbas Rabiu Kamba, who disclosed this, added that in Jega local government, 300 houses were destroyed and two persons were killed.
In Shanga local government area, 307 houses collapsed in Yar Besse, Dugu Tsohuwa, Tungar tsamiya, and Hundege villages., he said, adding that undisclosed number of flooded houses in Arewa and Ngaski local governments were reported to the agency by the victims.
Despite the situation, no government intervention has reached the victims, but the SEMA has undertaken an on-the-spot assessment by officials and the operatives of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) who both promised to send relief materials to the affected local governments in Kebbi.
Kamba pleaded with the people of the State, particularly those living around riverside to move away, enjoining others to report emergencies immediately to the agency for prompt action and evacuation of victims to safer areas.
