Operatives of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) in Kano have arrested two young men for allegedly attempting to smuggle illicit drugs, including Indian hemp, to inmates at the Nomansland Magistrate Court Complex.
The suspects, Usman Khalid, 25, and Bello Musa Ahmed, 24, both residents of the Tsamiya (Brigate) area of Kano State, were apprehended by officers attached to the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Goron Dutse, while trying to throw the prohibited substances to inmates within the court premises.
In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC Musbahu Lawan Kofar Nasarawa, the NCoS warned members of the public against intermingling with inmates, particularly during their transportation to and from court, describing such acts as serious security breaches punishable under the law.
The statement reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to the rehabilitation and reformation of inmates, stressing that any attempt to undermine this mandate would be firmly resisted.
Kofar Nasarawa disclosed that the Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command, Ado Inuwa, has directed the Legal and Intelligence Units to hand over the suspects and the recovered substances to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
He added that the Command remains resolute in enforcing maximum security and maintaining zero tolerance for drug-related activities within custodial facilities and court premises across the state, while calling on residents to support security agencies in sustaining law and order.
