A truck involved in a lone-accident has killed four pupils of Egbolo community in Igalamela-Odolu local government area of Kogi state on Monday.
The truck was conveying them to their school at the nearby Ofuloko community when it could not climb a hill and plunged into a nearby river killing the pupils and wounding others.
The youth leader of the community Usman Idrisu revealed this, said “the truck could not climb the hill after it crossed the bridge and rolled backward before plunging into the river.
“We are seriously grieved in the Egbolo community for the death of four of our children who died in the course of seeking education.
“As it is now, many of those who sustained injuries have been rushed to a hospital in Idah town. This incident could have been averted if only there is a primary school in our community.
Idrisu who described the incident as black Monday in Egbolo community, said the accident occurred around 8am when a truck carrying building materials ferried some of the pupils to drop them at Ofuloko primary school, but was involved in an accident leading to the death of four children, with many sustaining various degree of injuries.
He said their children trek a long distance to Ofuloko community to enable them get access to basic education., and appealed to the state governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo to establish a primary school in the community.
“We are earnestly appealing to the Kogi State Government to give us a primary school so that our children will not be trekking long distance before they can acquire primary school education.”
