Troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF) Faruruwa have rescued a kidnap victim during a security operation conducted along the Kano–Katsina border.
The operation took place in the early hours of Sunday, December 28, 2025, following credible intelligence indicating the movement of armed bandits from the Daurawa and Kira areas of Katsina State into Kano. According to the Army Public Relations Officer of 3 Brigade, Major Babatunde Zubairu, troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Yankwada, swiftly mobilised a fighting patrol to intercept the suspects along the border corridor.
Major Zubairu explained that the troops engaged the bandits at Unguwar Dogo and Unguwar Tudu communities, where an intense exchange of gunfire ensued.
He said the bandits were overpowered by the troops’ superior firepower and forced to flee in disarray towards Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.
During the operation, one kidnap victim, identified as Rabiu Alhaji Halilu, aged 38, was successfully rescued. The victim reportedly sustained a gunshot injury to the leg while in captivity.
Halilu was immediately evacuated to the JTF Faruruwa Medical Centre, where he is currently receiving medical treatment. The troops also recovered three motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing bandits, two mobile phones, and an undisclosed number of cattle suspected to have been rustled.
Major Zubairu added that troops remain on high alert, with continuous patrols and surveillance underway to prevent further criminal activities and ensure the safety of communities along the border.
