Troops of the Guards Brigade of the Nigerian Army have killed one terrorist and rescued 19 kidnapped victims in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.
Spokesperson of Headquarters Guards Brigade, Lt. Odunola Olawuyi, stated this on Saturday in Abuja.
Olawuyi said the operation was conducted by troops of the 7 Guards Battalion in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force and local vigilantes, around Gidan Dogo.
She said the terrorists were reportedly responsible for the recent abduction of residents in the Byazhin area of Bwari.
According to her, troops made contact with the criminals during the operation, leading to a firefight in which one of the terrorists was neutralised while others escaped with suspected gunshot wounds.
“Further exploitation of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle and a locally fabricated firearm.
“All 19 kidnapped victims were successfully rescued and evacuated to safety, while troops later returned to their Forward Operating Base in Bwari.
“The rescued victims are currently receiving attention,” she said.
