Bandits have blocked Zaria -Kaduna highway, killing at least one person and abducting dozens others on Monday night.
The attack happened around Mawai village also known as Gonar Magajin Gari, on Monday night, it was learnt.
The slain traveller was identified as Alhaji Sani Dogara, a brother in-law to Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s senior special assistant on community liaison, Ahmed Maiyaki.
Maiyaki, in a Facebook post on Tuesday, confirmed the death of Dogara, saying his funeral would be held in Rigasa Kaduna on Tuesday.
Maiyaki said: “We regrettably announce the death of our brother (in-law), Sani Dogara last night. He was killed during a kidnappers’ attack at Dumbi, Zaria/Kaduna Way.
“Funeral is scheduled to hold today, 14th December, by 11am at his residence, Makarfi Road, Rigasa Kaduna.”
The assailants operated for almost three hours, unchallenged, witnesses said.
There is no official statement from the Kaduna State Police Command yet on the incident.
