Terrorists have released 11 of the 61 passengers abducted after bomb attack on the Abuja- Kaduna train three months ago.
On March 28, the terrorists launched an attack on the train in Kaduna, killing nine persons, injuring 28 others and kidnapping 63 passengers. Two passengers were later freed.
The 11 freed passengers, comprising six women and five men, were released on Saturday after intense negotiations, according to Tukur Mamu, a Kaduna-based publisher who was the lead negotiator.
A family of one of the victims, Abdullahi Sani, has confirmed the release of his sister in a Facebook post on Saturday.
Mr Mamu said the five men were released on health ground, while the female were among the vulnerable which was part of the agreement reached with the abductors.
The freed passengers are Amina Ba’aba Mohammed, Rashida Yusuf Busa, Jessey John, Hannah Ajewole, Amina Jibril, Najib Mohammed Dahiru, Hassan Aliyu, Peace A. Boy, Danjuma Sa’idu and Gaius Gambo.
Mamu said, “It was expected initially that all the abducted women will be released in the first batch while negotiations for the release of the remaining victims will continue but the abductors had cut down the number of women they initially agreed to release because the Nigerian Government had demanded that they include those with life threatening injuries among the released.”
