A Kaduna-based medical doctor who was scheduled to relocate abroad, Dr Chinelo Megafu, was among those killed in the ill-fated Abuja- Kaduna train.
The Nigerian Medical Association, Kaduna branch, in a statement confirmed that the doctor worked at St Gerald’s Hospital Kaduna.
She was billed to leave the country on Friday.
Terrorists have attacked the train with explosives around Dutse -Kakau Monday night, some kilometres away to Rigasa Train Station in Kaduna.
Many were killed or wounded, and dozen others kidnapped during the Monday night attack.
The driver of the train, identified as Sani, is among those whose whereabouts were still unknown, according to his collegues in Kaduna.
A staff of the NRC said, “He is a friend and a colleague; we were together a day before he left. We tried reaching him through phone after the incident but his phone has been unreachable. We are all confused but we pray he and the others are safe,” he said.
The sources at the station also said two others workers of the train were among the casualties.
Dr Megafu, before her death, tweeted: “I’m on the train. I have been shot. Please pray for me.”
The doctor’s colleague, Dr Michael Ajidahun, hours later, confirmed that Megafu did not survive the attack.
Dr Ajidahun said, “Just woke up to a sad news My friend just woke up to losing a close friend who was shot at the Abuja- Kaduna train incident by terrorists. She tweeted yesterday that we should pray for her. Sadly she didn’t make it. She was a Doctor Nigeria why..I’m heartbroken,” said Ajidahun better known as ‘The Bearded Doctor’on Twitter.
Dr Megafu, a Dental Surgeon, graduated from the University of Port Harcourt in 2016.
