The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket would have been given to the former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu if he was a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed has said.
He said Tinubu ordinarily deserved the ticket for his role in the formation of APC and the eventual emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari as the country’s leader for two terms.
He spoke when he appeared on ThisDay Live, a programme on Arise TV.
Mohammed said he met Tinubu and other eminent Nigerians that attended the iftar hosted by Aisha, wife of President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday.
“I was lucky I met Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, (vice president) Osinbajo we discussed, he (Tinubu) called me consensus.
“I told him (Tinubu), if you were in PDP, we would have given you the (presidential) ticket because we know that without you, (Muhammadu) Buhari wouldn’t have been the president.
“In PDP, we recognise contribution. We have people in Nigeria that we must recognise and it was definitely a good outing for me.”
