President Bola Tinubu joins the government and people of Plateau in mourning Lt-Gen. Jeremiah Timbut Useni, former minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), who died on Thursday at 82.
The President extended his condolences to the family, friends, military colleagues, and political associates of the former Governor of old Bendel, Minister of Transport, and Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army.
President Tinubu in a statement by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, on Friday, said Useni demonstrated courage and dedication throughout his military career and inspired many young officers to prioritise national interests above personal gain
“The President states that the late Useni also made some difference in politics as deputy national chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party and senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District.
“The President prays that God Almighty will grant Lieutenant-General Useni’s soul eternal rest and solace for his family,” said the statement.
Similarly, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has described the death of one of his predecessors, Retired Lt.-Gen. Jeremiah Useni, as a great loss to the nation.
Wike, in a statement by his spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, in Abuja on Friday, said Useni lived a life of service to the country.
“He was a great man, a patriot, a fine military officer, a politician, a peacemaker and a man of faith,” Wike said.
