Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu would unveil his running mate on Monday, a top party chieftain told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE on Thursday.
The party chieftain, who declined being named because he was not authorized to speak, said Mr Tinubu would return from France on Friday, and “reveal the name of his running mate on Monday for onward submission to INEC.”
Mr Tinubu won the APC presidential primary with 1,271 delegates’ votes, defeating 11 other candidates.
Former Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi got 316 votes, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo had 235 and Senate President Ahmad Lawal trailed with 152 votes.
On June 15, Tinubu submitted the name of an APC chieftain from Katsina State, Ibrahim Kabir Masari as placeholder running mate to INEC.
Ever since the struggle by many party stakeholders to produce the vice presidential remain on top gear.
The party chieftain said, “The issue of running mate for Asiwaju Tinubu has been settled. He will return to Nigeria on Friday and announce his substantive running mate on Monday.”
On July 1, INEC said its July 15 deadline for the submission of the list of governorship and House of Assembly candidates by political parties stands.
This means that all changes and substitutions by political parties must be made before the deadline.
On Friday, Labour Party’s presidential candidate Peter Obi unveiled a proprietor of Baze University, Abuja and Baba-Ahmed University Kano, Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, as his running mate.
Earlier, the PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has picked Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate.
