The administration of Bola Tinubu has been accused of abandoning the fight against ethnic militia groups and tackling insecurity, but focusing on political opponents
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar made the allegations in response to the deadly terrorist attack in Borno State on Wednesday.
In a statement posted on X on Friday, Atiku condemned the insurgents for invading a military base and an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Ngoshe, located in Gwoza Local Government Area, where more than 100 residents were reportedly kidnapped.
Atiku said the attack was as “deeply troubling,” adding that the Federal Government’s response to the attack and similar ones not enough.
He lamented the rise and widespread violence across the country that both the government and citizens have become numb to the bloodshed.
He said the FG lost its grip on the fight against terrorism and violent attacks.
Instead of focusing on exerting pressure on political opponents and enabling what he described as self-serving ethnic militia groups, the former Vice President accused Tinubu of abandoning the fight against the on going devastating insecurity destabilising the nation’s fabrics.
“It is unfortunate that the current federal government appears to be losing its grip on the fight against terrorism and violent attacks. Instead, it seems more focused on unleashing intense pressure against political opponents and enabling self-serving ethnic militia groups.
Atiku said “it is disheartening that those responsible for internal security, along with the elite of the ruling party, remain preoccupied with consolidating power, while vulnerable civilians and servicemen are being killed.”
