President Bola Tinubu has granted the National Honours of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) on Colonel Abubakar Dangiwa Umar(Rtd).
Presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga announced this on his Facebook page on Thursday.
He said the honour was in recognition of Col. Dangiwa’s contribution to the June 12 campaign.
He said Tinubu announced the honour during an address at the commissioning of a 300-bed hospital and vocational training institute in Kaduna on Thursday.
Onanuga said “Abubakar Umar was known as the soldier of democracy. But his name was missing among the June 12 honorees announced on Democracy Day. President Tinubu apologized for the omission.”
It would be recalled that Tinubu granted some June 12 activist National Honours when he celebrated his second anniversary on Democracy.
The omission of Col. Umar and other June 12 activists during the awards sparked criticism from different quarters.
