The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, says the efforts of President Bola Tinubu is gradually addressing brain drain and other health challenges facing Nigerians.
Idris stated this at the fourth attestation ceremony of the group of 2025 class of MBBS students of the Nile University of Nigeria on Friday in Abuja.
He said the student would certainly contribute to the medical profession and effective healthcare services that President Tinubu had been craving to improve in the country.
“I feel so proud and we want to also urge them to align themselves with the vision of Mr President in providing good quality health care for our people/country, and also improve medical industrialisation
“One, the Japa syndrome by our medical personnel, I think there is a new revised system now.
“What Tinubu is trying to do is to ensure that all professionals actually have the ability and the comfort to stay within the shores of Nigeria to practice their profession.
“Indeed, we are also seeing that some other people that have even left this country are now coming back as a result of the policies that have been put in place, especially in the healthcare sector.
“Improvement in all the primary healthcare facilities, and the injection of funds is boosting the medical industrialisation in the country and ensuring it competes with other parts of the world.
“We can see that with what the President has done; he launched six oncology centers across this country and also the rehabilitation of all the tertiary healthcare facilities,” Idris said.
He said Tinubu’s efforts are helping to addressing illness like cancer and others that usually takes Nigerians to other countries, adding that such treatments are available and affordable in Nigeria today.
According to him, these are all efforts at ensuring that Nigerian healthcare indeed is world class and this is the beginning of what we see of these professionals going to that sector to improve in the services.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Idris’ daughter, Rukaya is among the over 50 students that participated in the attestation ceremony.
Rukaya said she intended to be a very good medical doctor in the future and make the healthcare system in Nigeria better.
“I hope to gain experience and help people that are less privileged with my knowledge.
“Also, for the students who struggling; everything is possible. All you have to do is pray, study well with commitment, dedication, focus and rest,” she said.
