President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Alhaji Murtala Garo, the new deputy governor of Kano State, following his swearing-in by Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf on Tuesday.
This is contained in a statement issued by Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, on Tuesday in Abuja.
Yusuf nominated Garo to fill the vacant position created by the departure of Aminu Abdulsalam, who resigned in the aftermath of the governor’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Garo, 48, previously served as Chairman of Kabo Local Government Area and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs under the erstwhile administration of Abdullahi Ganduje.
He was also the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship running mate in the 2023 election.
Tinubu commended Yusuf for the appointment, describing it as a step towards strengthening unity within the APC in Kano State.
The president urged political stakeholders in the state to rally support for the governor and his deputy.
He also charged Garo to work closely with the governor to advance development in the state, while wishing the deputy governor success in his new role.
