Residents of Shararrar Pipe and admirers of Hausa music in Katsina were thrown into mourning when thugs known as Kauraye, killed a popular musician, Abubakar Idris on Friday.
Abubakar Idris, known as Abu Amshi, was killed outside his father’s house in the evening of Sallah day by Kauraye who were said to be on revenge mission in the area.
A colleague of the deceased, who asked not to be named for security reasons, told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE that Abu Amshi was a victim of a lawlessness in the area.
“What we’ve been able to gather is that some Kauraye from the area around Farin Masallaci to Shararrar pipe had a fight with other Kauraye. So, this group of Kauraye decided to surprise the Kauraye in Farin Masallaci by attacking the area on Sallah day. He (Abun Amshi) was sitting outside their house pressing his phone when they descended on him with knives.
“Abu was never a kaura, he was a self employed person who was known to be an honest person,” the source, himself a musician, told this reporter.
One of Abu Amshi’s childhood friends, who simply identified himself as Ibrahim, said there were several knives cuts on the deceased body.
The police spokesman in Katsina State, Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu didn’t respond to SMS and WhatsApp messages sent to him over the incident.
Clashes between rival Kauraye groups and their attacks on residents are becoming a source of concern for both residents and authorities.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that frequent Kauraye clashes in the metropolis are recorded in areas like Sabuwar Unguwa, Tudun Matawalle, Shararrar pipe.
To tackle the activities of Kauraye, an Anti – Kauraye Squad was created by the Katsina Police Command.
