Senator Danjuma Goje has been attacked by thugs in Gombe on Friday.
The attackers also vandalised his offical vehicle.
Goje (Gombe, APC), was governor of Gombe from 2003 to 2011.
His official vehicle was reportedly hit with dangerous weapons on Friday morning while he was making his way into the capital of the state.
A statement by his spokesperson, Lilian Nworie, said Goje who is in the state for a personal engagement was prevented from getting into the city after the hoodlums set bonfires.
The incident occurred around the International Conference Centre located on Bauchi-Gombe road.
He alleged that the thugs are loyal to Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya.
He added that police officers stationed in the area did not make any effort to stop the chaos.
Yahaya and Goje are said to be at loggerheads over issues bordering on the state and their party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
