Three police officers and three locals were gunned down by terrorists who invaded Yar Bulutu weekly market in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The terrorists struck 24 hours after President Muhammadu Buhari visited the state to declare the Chief of Army Staff’s 2022 Conference open.
The bandits stormed the market around 12:30pm.
The lawmaker representing Sabon Birni South in the State House of Assembly, Sa’idu Ibrahim, revealed that the bandits came on about 20 motorcycles with each motorcycle carrying three persons.
According to Ibrahim, the bandits began operation by firs killing two mobile policemen guiding the market and set one of their vehicles on fire.
“They later killed another policeman who ran into the bush, dragged his body from the bush and throw it into the burning vehicle. They also killed three other persons in the market and injured several others.
He said his brother is at the Orthopaedic hospital in Wamakko being treated of shot wounds on the leg by the attackers, adding that the attack was carried out by bandits who fled sustained military onslaught in Zamfara, Katsina and Kaduna states.
“The operation ought to have been carried out in all the states experiencing banditry in the North West simultaneously but because it is not taking place in Sokoto, the state now became a safe haven for bandits dislodged in those states,” he asserted.
The deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Idris Danchadi, who is from the area, said some places in Sabon Birni were still under the control of bandits.
