Three policemen were killed in front of a police station along the Enugu-Abakaliki highway in Ebonyi State by gunmen.
The incident happened on Monday when the policemen were said to have mounted a roadblock in front of the station where the gang opened fire on them, a witness said.
The gunmen were said to be in a hummer bus, which the policemen may have mistaken for a commercial vehicle.
“The remains of the three victims have been deposited at a mortuary in Abakaliki after they were confirmed dead by doctors,” another witness said.
Spokesperson of the Ebonyi Police Command, DSP Loveth Odah, has confirmed the incident.
