Three people have died in a tanker crash in Kura local government, Kano state on Friday.
A statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, revealed that the crash occurred around 1:30 p.m.
He said the petrol tanker crashed at the Kura Market junction, along Zaria Road.
The statement revealed that firefighters were immediately dispatched to the location, where they discovered that the tanker, carrying 30,000 litres of petroleum products and registered as NGZ 250 XA, had overturned and erupted in flames. According to the statement, the vehicle also knocked down a cyclist by the roadside.
It also revealed that four people were affected in the crash adding that three of them were found unconscious and were later confirmed dead, while the cyclist survived.
Fire personnel, working alongside the police and the Federal Road Safety Corps, successfully brought the blaze under control.
The statement further stated that barely an hour later, at about 2:45 p.m., the Fire Service received another emergency call and this time from one of its officers, Fire Assistant III Ahmad Gwangwazo, alerting the control room to a fire outbreak at Hamisu Plaza along Maiduguri Road in Tarauni LGA.
He said firefighters from the headquarters arrived to find a two-storey commercial building measuring 200 by 200 feet engulfed in flames on the upper floor adding that three shops were completely destroyed, while two others were partially affected.
