Senator Samaila Kaila (Bauchi North) and three House of Representatives members Abdulkarim Ahmed (Kaduna South), Aliyu Mustapha (Ikara/Kubau) and Sadiq Ango Abdullahi (Sabongari) have defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Senate President, Godswill Akpabio read Kaila’s letter of defection on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday in the Senator said he left the PDP after extensive consultations with critical stakeholders, political associates, and my constituents from the Bauchi North Senatorial District.
Kaila gave his reason for leaving the PDP saying “It has become evident that the prolonged internal divisions, recurring factionalisation and crisis, loss of strategic direction within the PDP, have gravely constrained my ability to discharge my constitutional responsibilities effectively and in good conscience.
“I have chosen to join the All Progressives Congress and to lend my full commitment to the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.”
Akpabio congratulated Kaila on his defection to the ruling APC.
The three Kaduna House of Representatives members announced their defections in three separate letters read by the Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas during Tuesday’s plenary.
Kaduna State has witnessed the influx of politicians to the APC from rival parties in the past few months including the return of Senator Shehu Sani and Hon Amos Magaji, among others.
The Reps – Ahmed, Mustapha and Abdullahi – attributed their defection, in their letters, from the PDP to “the lingering crisis in the PDP” and the need to key into the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu as reasons for swapping their political platforms.
While announcing his defection, Ahmed told his Ward Chairman that his resolve to resign from the party “the constant internal conflicts and factionalism within the PDP, which have climaxed into an elongated party crisis, are undesirably impacting my ability to effectively represent my constituency and accomplish my obligations optimally.”
