Thousands of civilians have been trapped after Boko Haram terrorists took control of Dikwa, a town 90 km from Maiduguri, Borno State capital.
Reports say the attack happened Monday night, after the terrorists recaptured the town after Nigerian soldiers had earlier repelled them Monday evening.
Reports also said residents were roaming the street after the attack, as the terrorists preached to them not to leave the town.
Military source said troops have already been reinforced to retake the town.
Dikwa has experienced several attacks from the insurgents since the liberation of the town in 2016. The town also hosts the military Super Camp 9 where the Army Chief visited last week and ordered the retaking of Marte, which is about 20km away.
