A teenager has been killed during an engagement between the police and Yoruba Nation protesters in Ojota area of Lagos.
The protesters had early Saturday morning converged in the area carrying placards and demanding self government for the South West geo-political region of the country.
The police fired shots in the air and teargas to disperse them from the venue of the protest.
An eyewitness said the victim was hit by bullets fired by policemen to disperse the protesters.
He said the deceased, whose identity was yet unknown, operated a store close the venue, and was getting set for the day’s business when she was hit by a stray bullet.
The protest is being spear headed by self acclaimed Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Igboho, who has been declared wanted by the Department of State Service (DSS) after it raided his (Igboho’s) Ibadan residence and recovered some arms and ammunition.
Igboho had led a Yoruba secessionist group to several rallies across the South West. He had fixed Lagos for the mega rally, before the raid by the DSS. He has been on the run.
