Police in Jigawa State have arrested a secondary school teacher, Salisu Bello, for raping a female student of Government Secondary School Shuwarin, in Kiyawa local government area of the state.
Spokesman of the state police command, Lawan Shisu Adam, in a statement on Saturday, said Bello, 30, who is a teacher in the school, lured the victim, a 19 year-old student, into one of the toilets and sexually abused her.
Adam assured that the suspect would be charged to court once the police conclude its investigations.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that the state Governor, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, had in February signed into law the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Bill, which provides for death sentence or life imprisonment for anybody convicted of rape or any form of sexual assault.
