Three people have been killed after a tanker conveying petroleum products caught fire at Amoke village in Apa local government area of Benue State.
This is coming two months after a similar incident at Oshingbudu village in Agatu local government area of the state, where many people were killed and over 100 houses burnt.
A source told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE that the incident happened at about 7am on Monday, which caused panic among the residents of Amoke and made them scamper for safety.
The source said the accident was caused by the sharp bend that led to the community.
However, the state Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Yakubu Mohammed, who confirmed that three people died in the incident, said the accident was due to brake failure, after which the tanker later caught fire.
He said the fire was eventually put out after long hours, stressing that it took effort to do so because there was no Fire Service station close to the scene of the incident.
