The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto state has accused Governor Aminu Tambuwal of neglecting victims of the recent market fire, five months after the inferno.
The APC chairman, Isa Sadiq Achida, said in a statement on Sunday that the governor had “demonstrated a complete lack of interest in the lives of the victims of the disaster and utter neglect of the importance of marketing and commerce in the economic well being of the state.”
“Since the unfortunate incident, virtually nothing has been done to these traders. Apparently, the state government has either lost interest in the matter, or does not know what to do,” Achida said.
“We are not also unaware that the government has received donations running into hundreds of millions, if not billions, from philanthropic organizations and individuals, but has chosen to sleep over the money and leave the victims to their fate.”
The party also tackled the government over the slow phase of Mabera water ways project and the perennial water scarcity in the state.
It also alleged that rural areas have continue to suffer total neglect under the Tambuwals’s administration.
Reacting to the allegations, the state People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chairman, Bello Goronyo, said government would soon start implementation of the recommendations of the committee set up to investigate the cause of the fire incident.
On the Mabera project he said ” the people of Mabera know this government is helping them because after its completion, in the next 50 years there will not be a flood in the area.
