SWAN hails Lawal for hosting Super Eagles Coach, Chelle

Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal hosted the Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle with the aim of reinvigorating sporting activities among youths in the state.

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Zamfara chapter has hailed Gov. Dauda Lawal for hosting the Super Eagles Coach, Eric Chelle in Gusau, the Zamfara capital.

The Chairman of SWAN, Zamfara chapter, Murtala Dabbaa, gave the commendation on Thursday in Gusau, while reacting to the news of Chelle’s visit.

Dabbaa said the visit was a boost to sports development of Zamfara, especially Football among other sports.

The chapter chairman extolled Lawal’s vision for the youth of the state in the area of sports development.

He said Chelle’s visit would strengthen and encourage the Zamfara United FC as well as othe football enthusiasts.

The chairman said Zamfara was blessed with many talented players currently participating both at Nigeria’s local and the national Leagues.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Lawal, on Wednesday hosted the Head Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Éric Sékou Chelle, at the Government House in Gusau, Zamfara.

The Governor disclosed the visit in a post he shared on his verified social media handles.

Lawal described the meeting as a productive engagement with an accomplished sportsperson..

According to Lawal, discussions during the visit focused on key issues that align with the state’s development agenda, particularly the promotion of sports as a tool for youth engagement and empowerment across various categories.

He said that the conversation also highlighted opportunities to harness the potential of young people in Zamfara through structured sporting activities, especially as the state prepares for the inauguration of its revamped stadium and sports complex.

Lawal said, “Earlier today, I received Éric Sékou Chelle, the head coach of the Super Eagles. It was a pleasure to converse with such a great sportsperson.

“We discussed key issues that support Zamfara State’s development and how to engage our youths in active sports across different categories, especially in light of the upcoming inauguration of our revamped stadium and sports complex.”

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in sports infrastructure and programmes that will encourage talent development and create positive avenues for youths in the state.

Under Chelle’s watch, the Super Eagles won Bronze after finishing third in the just concluded 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) championship in Morocco.
