Kalu will be absent in the upcoming AFCON qualifiers after he limped off with an injury in Bordeaux win at Dijon.
Bordeaux manager Jean-Louis Gasset confirmed that Samuel Kalu suffered a recurrence of a thigh injury in their 3-1 Ligue win over Dijon on Sunday.
The injury update comes as a blow for Nigerian coach, Gernot Rohr, who has included the 23-year-old in the Super Eagles’ 24-man squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The fixtures against Benin and Lesotho are scheduled on March 27 and 30, respectively.
The Nigerian international is expected to undergo further medical examinations to determine the severity of the injury.
Kalu was selected alongside Ahmed Musa, Moses Simon, Alex Iwobi, Victor Osimhen, Kelechi Iheanacho, Samuel Chukwueze and Sadiq Umar in Nigeria’s frontline.
Kalu could be well replaced by one of Galatasaray’s Henry Onyekuru, Genk’s Paul Onuachu or Lorient’s Terem Moffi, who are on stand-by in case of injuries like this.
