The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has told Muslims in Nigeria to begin sighting the new moon of Ramadan 1447 AH on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.
Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, announced this on Monday.
The Sultan, who is also the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), said “Muslims are requested to watch for the crescent moon after sunset on Tuesday and report its sighting promptly to the village/district heads or directly to the Sultanate Council through the following numbers:
