The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, has conferred traditional titles on some prominent Nigerians for their contribution to the development of the country.
Among the new title holders were the Governors of Bauchi and Gombe states, Alhaji Bala Muhammed and Muhammad Yahya Inuwa.
Muhammad was conferred with the title of Kauran Daulan Usmaniyya while Inuwa was named Dan Amanan Daulan Usmaniyya.
Others include the former Governor of Zamfara state, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, who was conferred with the title of Marafan Sokoto; Professor lshaq Oloyede as Kuliyan Sokoto; and Professor Mansur Ibrahim as Dan Masanin Sokoto.
Alhaji Umaru S. Abubakar IlI is the new Sarkin Arewan Sokoto; Alhaji Bello ibrahim as Sarkin Malaman Sokoto and Alhaji Ya’u Aliyu Dogondaji as Dikkon Sokoto, among others.
A statement signed by the Secretary to the Sultanate Council, Alhaji Sa’idu Maccido, Danburan Sokoto said the conferment was part of the celebration of the 18th years anniversary of the monarch.
He said the date for the turbaning ceremony would be announced in due Course.
