Kwara State Government has inaugurated a probe panel to look into the recent “excessive” flogging of five students of Musbaudeen Islamiyya Arabic School in Ganmo, Ifelodun local government area of the state.
The students were flogged for allegedly attending a birthday party in a clubhouse on Sunday, October 9.
The video of the party where the erring students were seen dancing and drinking was reportedly sent to the management, which later prompted its action.
However, a video showing where five clerics were seen beating the students with long canes also went viral shortly after the incident on Monday.
Already, the state government has suspended the head of the school in order to pave way for investigations into the circumstances that led to the action.
A statement by the spokesperson to the state governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, said the instigative panel is chaired by retired Justice Idris Haroon.

Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Ms. Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu; Special Assistant to the Governor on Religion (Islam), Mr. Ibrahim Dan Maigoro and Professor Hamzat Abdulraheem, Prof Badmus Yusuf; Professor Ali Agan; Dr. Mohammed Ghali Alaya; Dr. Saudat AbdulBaqi; Ms. Balikis Oladimeji of the Federation of Muslim Women Associations of Nigeria (FOMWAN); Mallam Lawal Olohungbebe; and Dr AbdulHameed Sanni (Secretary).
