Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, on Sunday urged the resident doctors to obey the court order by returning to work.
He aid this on Sunday during a television programme.
National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) had on Ausgust 1 embarked on strike over unpaid allowances and other issues. All efforts by the Federal Government to make the doctors to call of the strike and returned to work has yielded no result.
National Industrial Court had on Friday ordered the doctors to resume work following a suite filed by the government, but the doctors did yield the court order.
However, the NARD in a statement jointly signed on Friday by its President and Secretary-General, Dr Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi, and Dr Jerry Isogun, repectively, said its had directed its lawyers to appeal the court ruling.
The minister explained that the doctors can continue negotiation after they had resume work.
“I want to appeal to NARD for them to reconsider their position, get back to work tomorrow or next and then come back again for discussions. We have so many things to discuss,” Ngige said.
“The court has ruled and said ‘Go and do some more settlement but meanwhile, you go back to work and continue the settlement’.”
